Berrigurra cattle property

This cattle property is a breeding and finishing enterprise (that is, breeding and fattening cattle for market) with more than 2500 head of cattle including 850 breeders servicing export and domestic markets.

The property gives students invaluable experience in cattle production, cattle health and nutrition, meat quality assessment, horsemanship competencies (for mustering and drafting cattle) and business management practices.

Crop production

Students are an important part of the campus's crop production team, gaining extensive hands-on experience from the 500 hectares of irrigated and 700 hectares of dryland cropping. The crops grown on the campus farms are influenced by the seasonal and market conditions of the Central Highlands district and can include cotton, sorghum, wheat and barley among others.

Horse breeding

The campus has operated an Australian stock horse stud for more than 20 years. The stud is part of a horse plant of more than 130 horses, used for instruction, competition and after-hours recreation.

Students gain practical horsemanship skills and proficiencies in breeding and equine health, as well a sound knowledge of business management practices.
