Recognition of prior learning
Recognition of prior learning, also referred to as RPL or RCC (recognition of current competencies), is the formal acknowledgement of a person's current skills and knowledge, no matter how, when or where the learning occurred. These skills, knowledge or experience may have been gained in a number of ways, for example through:
- formal or informal training and education
- work experience (including volunteer experience)
- general life experience.
Recognition of prior learning can benefit employers by:
- helping your staff achieve full or part qualifications potentially motivating staff to commit themselves to your business
- helping you identify areas where your staff may need further training so you can target your training investment and reduce training costs
- boosting productivity and helping you retain an edge over competitors
- saving time in getting your workforce qualified.
The process of recognising skills or knowledge involves an assessment by a registered training organisation to see if a person's skills and experience meet current industry standards. The Australian Agricultural College Corporation provides assessment services to enable your workers to undertake the recognition of prior learning process.
